Who We Are
Mission Statement
The Wyoming Stock Growers Agricultural Land Trust
(WSGALT) is dedicated to Wyoming’s ranching and farming heritage.
Our goal is to provide agriculture landowners with land conservation
options to enhance their business planning to remain productive and independent
today, and better prepared to pass on their tradition to future
generations. Their sustainable legacy is our success to help
conserve the natural habitats and open spaces that will ensure the spirit
of the West continues to thrive.
Organizational Description
Wyoming Stock
Growers Agricultural Land Trust (WSGALT) was founded by general
membership vote of the Wyoming Stock Growers Association in December of
2000. WSGALT’s establishment was based on a growing need within the
ranching community to provide voluntary, private sector mechanisms that
assist landowners in retaining their land in agriculture and in passing
it on to succeeding generations. WSGALT became a federally
registered charitable organization on July 2001. WSGALT accomplishes
its objectives through receiving conservation easements, increasing
awareness of tools to maintain ranchlands, and assisting in research for
new opportunities to conserve working agricultural landscapes.
We differ from other land
conservation organizations operating throughout the state. WSGALT
is targeted in our agriculture-based mission:
1) We are Wyoming’s
first and only locally based statewide land conservation organization.
2) We focus specifically on
conserving ranchlands and ranching operations.
3) We maintain a board of
directors composed primarily of agricultural producers who have a
first-hand understanding of ranching and community issues.
4) We are affiliated with the Wyoming
Stock Growers Association, which has a history of over 130 years of respect
and trust within Wyoming’s agricultural community.
WSGALT has an
eight-member board of directors. The majority of board members are
elected by the Board of Directors of the Wyoming Stock Growers
Association (WSGA). The Executive Vice President of the WSGA serves
as an ex-officio (non-voting) member of the board. The remaining
members are elected by the board of the Trust.
